When your Journal transitions to a new Editorial Board each year, make sure you add and remove people from all of the appropriate email groups associated with your Journal.
Dropbox folders are managed by certain groups in MCommunity, so make especially sure outgoing editors add incoming editors to those.
To find all the email groups for your Journal, go to MCommunity and search for your Journal abbreviation (MLR, MJIL, etc.). If you are not an owner of a group, contact them to ask for changes.
Some email groups are used internally by editors or for Journal business purposes (e.g. mjrlsubmissions@umich.edu), while others are used by Law IT to grant access to certain resources, such as the IT Journal Resources page (e.g. UMLS-MJRL-Members@umich.edu).
Each year, Jessica will add all EICs and MEs to MLawJournals@umich.edu (email group used for "JAM" (Journals at Michigan)).
If your Journal uses a shared google account as an inbox for sending and receiving submissions, etc. (ex: MJEAL-NoteSubmissions@umich.edu) please make sure you have the account and password information saved somewhere and/or pass it on to the next board members.
When transitioning to a new Managing Editorial Board, make sure you add new editors to the article submission platform(s) you are using.
For help with Schoalstica, see their Law Review Editor Guide.
You should review the MLaw Student Leader Handbook in addition to the information on this page.
Each Journal is considered a Sponsored Student Organization by the Center for Campus Involvement, and as such, has to re-register each year to maintain this status.
Sponsorship Forms must be resubmitted by Sept. 30th each year
Each year --
This process also typically involves updating your 'authorized signers' (the members of your organization that have access to the Journal's SOAS Account - where Journal discretionary funds are held).
During Registration on MaizePages, you may also be asked to upload a copy of your Journal Constitution. Your constitution must include the following 2 statements:

If you need a key to your Journal's office, check one out from the Information Desk on Sub-1!
Active attacker situations are impossible to predict and evolve quickly and randomly. As a result, these are general guidelines rather than specific instructions. The guidelines are essential information because we will all have to make split-second decisions to save ourselves. It is very important to know the basic principles, and it’s equally important to know the escape routes from places you frequent.
In addition to the guidelines, refer to the maps of the sub-levels and the Reading Room with heavy red arrows showing the various exit routes. If you would like color prints of the maps to post or distribute, please let the Library know which floors and how many of each.
There is also an Active Attacker Video created by the Department of Public Safety & Security (DPSS). We strongly encourage all journal members to watch the video in addition to reviewing the guidelines.
Please encourage each other to become familiar with the guidelines and maps so you will instinctively know where the less-known exits are if you ever hear gunfire.
Our information is taken from the DPSS guidelines and Emergency Preparedness information from the university’s executive officers.
Let's be safe!
Journal office keys can be checked out by Journal members for 24 hours at a time from the Information Desk on Sub-1 of the underground Law Library.
No alcohol is permitted on campus. For more information refer to the University's Standard Practice Guide (SPG).
If your Journal office contains any of the following, please make sure these items are only plugged in when in use, and are plugged directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector or extension cord):
(These appliances are not provided by the law school and are only allowed as long as they do not lead to leaks or electrical fires / damage.)
Orientation Supplies: The Library has funds in the budget to cover binders and folders for your new member orientations. Submit a request to your journal-business email address with the quantity and type of product you need and someone in the library will work with you to order what you need.
Printer Paper: If you find that one of the shared Journal printers is out of paper, there is more paper on metal shelves just inside the door to the Receiving Room, which is on the first floor of Legal Research, on the landing to the right of the tan carpeted stairs as you come down into the Library from the Reading Room. Dan Montalvo is the staff member who works in this area and can answer any questions you have, but you should feel free to grab a ream or two of paper when needed. If the door is locked, find a Library staff member who knows the door code to let you in.
Kincaid Brown and Jessica Pasquale, among some other library staff, are Individuals with Reporting Obligations.
This means that under the university’s Policy and Procedures on Student Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct and Other Forms of Interpersonal Violence, they are required to share information about suspected misconduct to the Office for Institutional Equity.
Here is a resource guide intended to assist anyone who may have experienced these violations to understand their options for reporting and make them aware of support services, including confidential resources: Our Community Matters Brochure
