Federal Tax Law Research: Major Tax Databases

A starter's research guide to the resources and tools available when researching federal tax law, with emphasis on primary law sources, administrative law materials, major tax law databases, and major secondary tax law sources.

Comprehensive Tax Law Databases

Please note that all of the sources of law found within this guide can be found electronically on the following major databases. These databases feature tools used by tax practitioners and include compiled information and resources for both primary and secondary tax law sources. Checkpoint, CCH Intelliconnect, Cheetah, and Bloomberg Tax are all accessible by Michigan Law faculty, staff, and students. Links to each database can be found on the Law Library's eResources page.

Other Databases

There are a few other tax law databases or practice centers offered by commercial publishers which contain similar information to the major databases listed above. They are not as comprehensive and contain different or limited information compared to practitioner databases like Checkpoint, Intelliconnect, and Bloomberg. The following databases are available to faculty, staff, and students at Michigan Law, though they are not recommended as a starting point for your research.
