Library Resources for Michigan Law Students: Need Research Help?

You Don't Have to Know Everything, You Just Have to Know Where to Look

The Michigan Law librarians and staff are here to help you navigate the vast landscape of legal resources. Whether you have a quick question, or need help digging deeper, there are a variety of ways to get your research started on the right foot.

Get Your Questions Answered

Have a Question? Ask the Experts

Get your question directly to a reference librarian by emailing askalawlibrarian@umich.edu. One of our lawyer librarians will get back to you between 8 A.M. and 6 P.M., Monday through Friday.

One-on-One Research Consultations

  • Researching an unfamiliar topic?
  • Want to improve your database search results?
  • Don't even know where to start?

Meet virtually with a JD degree holding reference librarian to discuss your research question. Schedule a time that works for you using our online scheduler. Appointments may be online or in person, though all students attending an in-person appointment should follow university guidelines on masks, vaccinations, and any other public health and safety precautions. Read more about the University of Michigan's current policies on their Campus Maize & Blueprint website.

Did You Know?

Every reference librarian in the MLaw Library has a JD and most have passed the bar. That means they know what you're going through, and they know how to help.

Get to the Research Consultation Scheduler from the Ask a Law Librarian button on the Law Library homepage. You can also learn about all other contact methods here.
