Preparation: Consulting Legal Research Guides
Citing authorities properly may be even more difficult for foreign legal research. Here is a list of citation manuals that dicsuss how to cite to foreign and international legal materials.
The Bluebook: An Uniform System of Citation (19th ed. 2010). It provides some guides on citing international organizational documents and some foreign jurisdiction materials.
Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation (5th ed. 2002).
Guide to Foreign and International Legal Citations (2nd ed. 2009)
Cardiff Index to Legal Abbreviations. This index includes over 7,000 abbreviations for about 4,000 titles of law publications mainly from British Isles and Commonwealth.
Prince's Bieber Dictionary of Legal Abbreviations (6th ed. 2009). It includes abbreviations found in reports, legal treatises, law review, loose-leaf services as well as other documents.
