This guide is designed to help you find Michigan legislative documents in the Law Library and elsewhere.

Bills

Beginning with 1997, all types of bill information is easily searchable online.

A bill can go through many versions during the legislative process.

As Introduced

The text of the bill as first submitted to the legislature by the sponsor(s).

In print, the following bound volumes are available beginning with 1931.

These are bound and shelved with the Michigan material on Sub-2.

Intermediate Versions

Versions of a bill before passage through both legislative houses, subject to multiple changes.  In print, these versions may be recorded in the respective journals.

These are bound and shelved with the Michigan material on Sub-2.

Final Versions or "Enrolled Bills"

The final text of a bill as passed by both houses and sent to the Governor for signature.

The chat service is available to all of our patrons but is designed to meet the legal research needs of U-M students, staff, and faculty.

Chat is monitored from 1-6 pm Monday-Wednesday and 1-5 pm Thursday-Friday on days when class is in session.

*Excluding University holidays and semester breaks--check library hours for more information. The Building and library are available to law school community ONLY after 6 pm, and are closed to all but law school community on home football Saturdays.
